Tell me why-ee…

Why does the bagpipe scene in Tommy Boy always give me chills? You know, Tommy’s dad’s funeral. Chills. Without fail. I think it’s the combination of the beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace on bagpipes and the beautiful scenery meeting the actual serious acting of Farley and Spade…it really is a beautiful scene. On another note, I had forgotten how much I loved this movie. Watched the DVD again tonight (it’s the first DVD I ever bought), and I can still quote virtually every line.

My favorites:

Gas station attendant: “I’m picking up your sarcasm.”
Richard: “I should hope so, because I’m laying it on pretty thick.”

Tommy: “Um, what my associate is trying to say is that our new brake pads are really cool. You’re not even gonna believe it. Let’s say you’re driving along the road with your family. You’re driving along… La-de-da, woo… Suddenly there’s a truck tire in the middle of the road. EEEEEEE! Whoa, that was close. Now let’s see what happens when you’re driving with the “other guy’s” brake pads. You’re driving along… You’re driving along. The kids are yelling from the back seat, “I gotta go to the bathroom, Daddy!” “Not now, dammit!” Truck tire! EEEE! I CAN’T STOP! AAAH! There’s a cliff! AAAAH! And your family’s screaming, “Oh my God, we’re burning live! I can’t feel my legs!” Here comes the meat wagon. And the medic gets out and says, “Oh my God!” The new guy’s in the corner puking his guts out. All because… You wanna save a couple extra pennies. And to me, that doesn’t…
Executive with Toy Cars: Get out. Now!
Tommy: Do you validate?
Executive with Toy Cars: No!

Oh, there’s much more. Much much more.

i know, i know…

I’ve totally been slacking off on the bloggage lately…not near enough bloggercise, and I think I’m getting love handles. Er…yeah. So anyway, the summer is nearing its end, and this summer has been an interesting one. It’s been a summer of new beginnings in the life of Joe Collins (yes, I did just refer to myself in the third person…jerk): I got a job serving tables at Ruby Tuesday (no ” ’s”), and another one leading worship at The Church At Rutledge (TCAR). I’m not at the Buff anymore, which is still a little strange…and I’m not a Carson-Newman Student anymore, which is even stranger considering I was one for a whole….year.

Now my best friend has joined me in adulthood. The Krust-man turned 18 yesterday, and we had quite a celebration. Waffle House at 12 AM on August 6th…movies from 2 AM til 6 AM….sleep from 6 AM to 10 AM, and chilltime from 10 to 2. At 2 we went to the mall and walked around, then went to the 3:25 showing of Dukes of Hazzard (freakin’ hot Jessica Simpson…I felt sinful)…all so I could stall him before we went to his house and his surprise party. Poor guy….didn’t have a clue. Then we went to see my former roomie and his former roomie play at New City Cafe, along with some other folks. Krusty smoked his inaugural cigar (Joe’s still a cigar virgin, folks)…good times were had.

Hopefully I’ll start updating this thing more often again….I kind of miss it. To you and yours…have a good one.
