Tell me why-ee…

Why does the bagpipe scene in Tommy Boy always give me chills? You know, Tommy’s dad’s funeral. Chills. Without fail. I think it’s the combination of the beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace on bagpipes and the beautiful scenery meeting the actual serious acting of Farley and Spade…it really is a beautiful scene. On another note, I had forgotten how much I loved this movie. Watched the DVD again tonight (it’s the first DVD I ever bought), and I can still quote virtually every line.

My favorites:

Gas station attendant: “I’m picking up your sarcasm.”
Richard: “I should hope so, because I’m laying it on pretty thick.”

Tommy: “Um, what my associate is trying to say is that our new brake pads are really cool. You’re not even gonna believe it. Let’s say you’re driving along the road with your family. You’re driving along… La-de-da, woo… Suddenly there’s a truck tire in the middle of the road. EEEEEEE! Whoa, that was close. Now let’s see what happens when you’re driving with the “other guy’s” brake pads. You’re driving along… You’re driving along. The kids are yelling from the back seat, “I gotta go to the bathroom, Daddy!” “Not now, dammit!” Truck tire! EEEE! I CAN’T STOP! AAAH! There’s a cliff! AAAAH! And your family’s screaming, “Oh my God, we’re burning live! I can’t feel my legs!” Here comes the meat wagon. And the medic gets out and says, “Oh my God!” The new guy’s in the corner puking his guts out. All because… You wanna save a couple extra pennies. And to me, that doesn’t…
Executive with Toy Cars: Get out. Now!
Tommy: Do you validate?
Executive with Toy Cars: No!

Oh, there’s much more. Much much more.

Ya know, as many times as I’ve seen that movie, I’m terribly sick of it. And yet I STILL laugh when I watch it. I can’t figure out why.
