The flashing at night, the sirens grow and grow

So here’s the part where I admit that I was a bit of a late-comer to the music of Sufjan Stevens. A friend let me borrow Illinois during the height of the hip indie culture’s obsession with Sufjan, but I never really got all that into it. The other day I was listening to it while working (I was working in dish that night), and I realized just how beautiful (though strange) it is. I don’t know what took me so long, but man this is amazing. I got Greetings from Michigan the next day, and I’ve been listening to them both quite a bit. There’s something strangely soothing about Sufjan’s music, even some of the really crazy stuff. I think “Casimir Pulaski Day” is my favorite track at the moment. There’s just something about his voice…I don’t know. At any rate, if you yourself haven’t caught up on the trend of Sufjan-loving, you need to. I was way behind, and now I feel like I almost missed the bus.

We need to start a “Latecomers to the Sufjan Stevens Train” club. That’s me too.

I’m not gah-gah about the album like say some people, but I do like it alot, and I think “Casimir Pulaski Day” is my favorite track. It gets me *right there* every time.

I only liked Sufjan at first because his titles are outrageous… but I got used to the strangeness of his sound and really like it now. Casimir Pulaski Day is my favorite as well.

Hope you’re having a good Summer!
