Good question; I don't think I was very clear on that point. It doesn't matter where you LIVE, as in it doesn't matter where you call home and where you sleep. What matters is where you actually practice - where your office is, in which courts do you appear, etc. I'm residing in Mississippi, in a town just across the river, but I'm actually practicing in Arkansas; that's where my office is, that's whose courts I practice in.

Congratulations on passing the bar and the job! (I can't help but wonder ... can you work for LAA while living in not-Arkansas? Maybe I will have to wait until the promised "later post" to understand this. :) )

Also ... maybe you should up your estimate to 1.00015 people, I was totally in suspense with your story. If you ever decide to give it a shot again, I can promise you ... well, at least one eager reader.

Steve, although I may not have been through your exact set of circumstances, I both empathize and sympathize with you. I will be taking the FL bar exam for the 3rd time. I've been through a range of emotions not unlike some you you have described above. Hang in there and work your way towards triumph. The one thing I can say for certain is that your setback will be a means of growth should you allow it to be. I'll be following you on your journey. My prayers are with you.

Let's see...
1) No on the super-genius thing - at least, that'll be true if they give one to me!

2) No on the no-party thing...the stories I could tell you.

3) No on the # of years practicing thing. There's an easily-mistakable difference between the academics of law and the practice of law. All that practice requires is the first law degree - which in this country is the J.D. - and passing the bar exam. Practice has no influence on the graduate programs, and the programs no influence on the practice. All that's required to get a J.S.D. (which is sometimes called S.J.D. depending on the school offering it) is a J.D. (or equivalent), an LL.M., and a strong academic record. If you're an excellent scholar and have a strong academic record, you can get all three without ever practicing a single day - or even ever taking the bar exam.

You must have to be a super-genius to have a title that contains all three words Doctor, Science, and Law. And have to have never been to a party in college.
Is it required to practice law for a number of years before achieving it?

Okay, so basically in a nutshell the freedom of speech and religion was taken for granted by the federalist who trusted our founding fathers not to abuse their power while the anti-federalist wanted something more concrete in writing to ensure their rights? Or am I oversimplifying it?
